What are API token scopes?

Scopes define what actions an API token is allowed to perform in Atlassian apps such as Jira and Confluence. They provide security by limiting the permissions of the token. You can create tokens with scopes (recommended) or without scopes (for apps that do not support scoped tokens).

Creating an API token with scopes:

1. Log in to https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens

2. Select "Create API token with scopes"

3. Enter a descriptive name for the token (for example: AQUILA - Monitoring)

4. Choose an expiration date for the token (between 1 and 365 days)

5. Select the application (Jira or Confluence)

6. Select the scopes or permissions the token should have

   • Example for Jira: read:audit-log:jira

   • Example for Confluence: read:audit-log:confluence

7. Click "Create"

8. Copy the token and save it securely. You cannot view it again after this step. If you lose it, you will need to generate a new token.

Required credentials for Jira Integration access:

• API URL: Base Jira API URL without the path

• Jira User Identifier: Your Atlassian email address

• Jira API Token: The API token you created
